A different kind of cruise: Over ten years ago we set out to make traveling by ship a real experience. In 2011 we held and consolidated our leading position in the German and European markets
... moreResponsable growth for sustainable success
More ships, more employees and more happy guests: Since our foundation in 1996, we haven’t stopped growing! Once again in 2011, we held and consolidated our leading position on the German and European markets. But while enjoying this success, we always remember one thing. The basis of the economic success of tomorrow is our responsible behavior in the here and now. We therefore place great value on ethical conduct, always treating our guests, employees and business partners with consideration, and carefully managing natural resources – both at sea and ashore. As Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s largest employer, we also take responsibility for this region – and indeed worldwide.
Last year, we continued our course for success. The launch of AIDAsol not only represented the addition of an eighth “club” ship to our fleet – it also created 600 new jobs. By the end of 2012 we'll employ 6,000 people around the globe. And we now offer more routes too: in 2011 we added two new destinations – the Black Sea and the Red Sea – further enhancing our destination portfolio. Although we are an international company, our roots will always be in the region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 2011 we purchased our company HQ in Rostock from Deutsche Immobilien AG. But one factor is a particular source of pleasure for us. Our innovative concept has allowed us to further increase our popularity among the general public – and today we are the best-known cruise ship brand in Germany.
But we’re not resting on our laurels – we have a great deal planned for the future too! Naturally, we want to further consolidate our top position in the German market, and the same goes for our lead in Europe as well. On May 12, 2012, our ninth ship, AIDAmar, will be launched as part of the Hamburg Hafengeburtstag, the port of Hamburg’s annual birthday celebrations. This addition to our fleet will allow us to welcome another 600 new employees to our company. In fact, a new AIDA cruise ship will take to the seas in 2013, 2015 and 2016 as well. This will increase our berth capacity from a current figure of 14,248 to 25,136 by 2016.Moreover, we are adding two new destinations to our portfolio in 2012: The city of Venice on the Adriatic coast, and the Spitsbergen and Lofoten archipelagos to the north of Norway.
