Academic studies at the AIDA Academy

Foundation for a successful career at sea

Nautical, technical or electro-technical engineer: A college-level education at AIDA provides advanced high school graduates with excellent future opportunities on board our ships.

In cooperation with the Hochschule Wismar, we offer an innovative educational concept for three college degrees in the specialized area of seafaring in Warnemünde: for the Bachelor of Science with specialization in nautical science/marine transportation or electrical engineering as well as the degree program for operational maritime technology.

AIDA Cruises offers you:

The AIDA Simulation Center offers the best conditions for specialized nautical and technical training or continuing education.

 

Bachelor's degree in nautical science / Marine transportation

In order to prepare the junior officers optimally for their deployment on board, we complement the traditional bachelor's program in the specialized area of seafaring, Warnemünde, with three additional components: first, by putting them through an integrated nautical officer cadet training as part of an intensive practical phase on board our ships as well as additional training programs at our AIDA Academy. In addition, all students receive a scholarship.

You will spend the first year as a nautical officer assistant on board the AIDA fleet. The practical block starts with a two-week basic safety training and training in maritime basics on board a sail training vessel.

The subsequent basic semesters of the three-year academic program is comprised of specialized studies in general law, business administration, natural sciences, mathematics and English. During the main study period, emphasis is placed on ship management, navigation, maritime traffic safety and communication. Throughout the entire time, the academic program is enriched with cruise-specific content at the AIDA Academy which provides comprehensive insight into modern cruise technology.

After a total of four years, the training program culminates in the certificate of competence for nautical watch officer and the Bachelor of Science in nautical science / marine transportation.

Bachelor's degree in operational maritime technology - dual

In order to prepare the junior officers optimally for their deployment on board, we complement the classic bachelor program in the specialized area of seafaring, Warnemünde, with three additional components: first through an integrated occasional training for a technical officer cadet, through intensive practice. On board our ships as well as additional training programs at our AIDA Academy. In addition, all students receive a scholarship.

 

The first year you will spend as a technical officer assistant on board the AIDA fleet. The practical block starts with a two-week basic safety training, a three-month metalwork training as well as training in maritime basics on board a sail training vessel.

The subsequent four-year academic studies cover technical ship operations, the systems and facilities on board. During the entire time, the academic program is enriched with intensive practical periods on board as well as cruise-specific content at the AIDA Academy which provides comprehensive insight into modern cruise technology.

After a total of five years, the training program culminates in the mandatory exams, the bachelor thesis and the certificate of competence for technical watch officer.

Bachelor's degree in electrical maritime technology

In order to prepare the junior officers optimally for their deployment on board, we complement the classic bachelor's degree program at University of Wismar with two additional components: first through an intensive practice period on board our ships as well as additional training programs at our AIDA Academy. In addition, all students receive a scholarship.

 

The first academic year starts with a two-week basic safety training and training in maritime basics on board a sail training vessel. After the first semester, the students complete their orientation internship on board the AIDA fleet.

During the academic studies, they focus on basic math, information technology and physics and are given an introduction to electrical engineering. The second part of the academic program focuses on ship-specific knowledge in electrical engineering and electronics. During another six-month internship on board, the theoretical knowledge is put to good use in the practical application. Throughout the entire time, the academic program is enriched with cruise-specific content at the AIDA Academy which provides comprehensive insight into modern cruise technology.

After 3 ½ years, the academic program culminates in the mandatory exams and the bachelor thesis.

AIDA Scholarship

Ensure the best possible preparation for an optimal start into your professional career. With AIDA as a partner, students and graduates with excellent performances receive an exceptional scholarship with individualized support and the best prospects for a promising career.

Among other things, the AIDA scholarship program covers "Cruise Engineers" and the AIDA Hotel Management Trainee programs.

Program content scholarship "Cruise Engineers"

AIDA uses this program to support graduates with a nautical and technical focus. During the last academic semesters these students will receive guidance and support on their way towards starting a fulfilling professional career as an operational maritime-technology, electro-technical or nautical officer on board the AIDA fleet. In addition, we support the scholarship holders in their professional and personal development as well as with the performance-based scholarship of up to EUR 500 per month.

The Cruise Engineers program also includes a six-month internship on board the AIDA fleet as well as a two-week maritime training program on the sail training ship "Großherzogin Elisabeth".

Furthermore, the academic program at the AIDA Academy in Rostock provides targeted development of management competencies and cruise-specific knowledge, including AIDA bridge and engine simulation training and management development programs.

Individualized support and advancement assistance round out the program.

These qualifications are necessary

You are currently pursuing advanced studies in operational maritime technology, electrical engineering, communication technology or nautical science with excellent grades.
You have already gained practical experience in the field and ideally you have already completed a technical or maritime-related apprenticeship program.
You have a keen interest in modern maritime technology and cruise ships with innovative maritime technology.
Your English skills are excellent.
You also stand out with your confident personality, are able to quickly grasp new concepts, and you have an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of responsibility.

Program content for hotel management trainees

During a 24-month trainee program, the participants are prepared for an upper management position in the hotel area on board our AIDA vessels.

You work in up to three stations in the hotel division such as the bar, restaurant, administration, provision and you will work directly in officer positions with leadership responsibilities.

In addition, management competencies and cruise-specific knowledge in exclusive development programs at the AIDA Academy will be particularly supported.

Individualized support through mentoring and coaching rounds out the program and prepares the participants on their path to department manager on board.

These qualifications are necessary

You have a (technical) university degree with a specialization in hotel/tourism management – ideally with a good to excellent final grade.
This is augmented by at least two years of practical experience in the hotel industry.
In addition, you have completed your education as a hotel management trainee.
Your English and MS Office skills (Word & Excel) are excellent.
Leadership experience and work experience abroad are a plus.
