AIDA Cruises supports informative event “Wissen mit Meerwert”
70 industrial engineering students from all over Germany informed themselves at first hand about AIDA Cruises on May 17, 2014. As part of a four-day event “Wissen mit Meerwert” (Knowledge with Added ‘Marine’ Value) organized by the Verband Deutscher Wirtschaftsingenieure (German Association of Industrial Engineers), the cruise company threw open the doors of the AIDA Academy on Neuer Markt.
AIDA experts spoke on the subjects of international logistics, ship operations, and career opportunities both on shore and at sea. At the simulation center the students had the chance to experience a walk through the engine room and stood on the bridge of an AIDA ship.
“By supporting this project we are investing in the future, and are using the opportunity to talk to motivated young talent,” explains Haike Witzke, Head of HR at AIDA. “We offer diverse career opportunities in a vast range of different areas, but we also provide targeted training ourselves,” Witzke says.
For instance, AIDA Cruises offers a course covering the specialist areas of nautical science, ship operation engineering, and ship electricalengineering. Applications for places starting in September 2014 are currently being processed. Furthermore, since 2011 AIDA has been involved in the “Deutschlandstipendium” campaign which provides grants to students. Every year AIDA sponsors two students in different specialist disciplines at the University of Rostock. The grant period extends over two semesters, giving the students the chance to concentrate fully on their studies.
With the AIDA fleet expanding from the current ten vessels to twelve in 2016, career opportunities at sea and on shore are also increasing. AIDA offers exciting and demanding jobs for skilled and managerial staff in the areas of ship transport and technology, gastronomy and hotel business, wellness and sport, tourism and business administration.
